About IDC
In 1997, Nancy and Art Stone, the owners of Art Stone Theatrical, decided to launch a new dance competition. The result was International Dance Challenge (IDC), known by its slogan “Setting the Global Standard In Dance Competitions.” IDC held its first two competitions in Anaheim, California and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on January 10, 1998. Although small in the beginning, news of IDC’s reputation for being a fair, well-organized and fun competition soon traveled throughout the country. Since its inception, attendance and participation in International Dance Challenge competitions has quadrupled and continues to increase yearly.
Currently under the direction of Vice President Nancy Stone, Executive Director of Operations Pearce McLain and National Director Randy Coleman, IDC will begin its 14th season in the winter/spring of 2011. IDC travels to over 25 cities across the United States and will hold its National Finals in Chicago, Illinois during the summer of 2011!
International Dance Challenge National Finals have proven to be an exhilarating finale to its regional seasons, offering the exciting Mr. & Miss IDC Title Contest, Spirit Banner Contest, Web Cast Spectacular and a multitude of other exciting events for all participants.
At each regional competition, IDC functions with the assistance of three Judges, an onsite Director and supporting staff. The Judges give verbal adjudication, in addition to a numerical score for each routine presented. Special Awards are also given to groups or individuals which stand out among the balance of other presentations in areas that reflect the artistic, creative, emotional and or technical aspects of routines.
Each International Dance Challenge competition concludes with an awards ceremony and presentation for the Special Awards. Plaques, placement ribbons, trophies, IDC credit certificates and cash awards are also presented and have elevated International Dance Challenge to being one of the premiere dance competitions in North America.
International Dance Challenge provides dance competitions for all ages in multiple subjects/styles of dance including Acrobatic/Gymnastic, Classical Ballet, Contemporary Ballet, Clogging, Dance Team, Ethnic/Folkloric, Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern/Abstract, Musical Theatre Character, Open, Classical Pointe, Contemporary Pointe, & Tap.
IDC is always evolving with yearly improvements to its program, truly taking pride in celebrating 14 years of “Setting the Global Standard in Dance Competitions.”
IDC Philosophy
The following is the philosophy on which IDC was created:
A dance competition is simply the way a certain set of judges view a certain set of dancers on a certain day.
If we were to change any of those variables, we can assure you that the results presented at each IDC competition would in some way be different.
A different set of judges, a different stage, or competing on a different day would result in a different outcome concerning performances.
It is well that we compete as dancers because we compete in everything we do daily. Competition shows us where we are, where we have come and where we need to aim for the future. It is very important however, that we remind ourselves that the true worth of an individual, as a dancer or even more importantly as a person, has never nor will ever be measured by a trophy, cash prize or award.
We reward each individual for having competed with us and hope our competitors remember that sometimes the best thing about doing something is simply… just to have done it!
